Hello Friendly Faces! This summer has been a whirlwind and the fact that it’s almost over (from a scheduling standpoint) is bittersweet.
My kids’ school is on a balanced calendar, which means we enjoy a glorious 2 week break in October, December and March. The downside, if there is one, is that our summer is merely 8 weeks long. And trust me, we do not take our summers lightly!
As you may remember from my last post, we made sure June was jam-packed with fun and fitness! Since then, my family found even more ways to enjoy the sunshine together. Settle in for our latest Weekend Update with Running N Reading as I try to catch you up, fill you in and get back on track!
Since our summer is comparatively shorter than some others, I have been trying to unplug as much as possible. Which certainly has it’s benefits, especially while my kids are still young. Even my 8 year old sighed the other day when I told her it was less than 2 weeks before school started back up again, before admitting, “Time really does fly, doesn’t it Mom?”
You have no idea, kiddo! My youngest will start kindergarten in just a few short days yet I am fairly certain he was just learning to crawl and talk and walk last week. Right? I digress …
Earlier this month, my husband surprised me with a day trip to French Lick to go zip-lining; he had been in Colorado over a decade ago, but it was my first time!
We had so much fun checking out the West Baden Resort then driving over to the Lark Valley Zip Lines – 2 hours of fun on 10 different zip lines through the woods and over a pond or two! Definitely something I want to do again!
We also spent time at my parents’ house on a private community lake near Cincinnati. There is almost no limit to the number of things you can count as exercise with so many water toys at your disposal! Peddleboat, kayaks, water bikes and swimming pool meant all kinds of family fun!
And, because we are blessed to have both family and friends who love the beach as much as we do, we set out on our final road trip of the summer to Grayton Beach, Florida last Friday to spend a week in the sun with our closest college friends and their beautiful families before our storybook summer of sandcastles and sunshine came to a close and we are forced back to reality.
Lucky for me, I had my amazing RG’s waiting for me this morning for a humid, but thankfully breezy, 5 miler ready to welcome me back to aforementioned reality!
What is your favorite way to spend a lazy summer day? Favorite vacation or stay-cation spot? One adventurous thing on your bucket list?!?
