Wayback Workout Wednesday: CRG24 Training Plan + Summer Stuff

Greetings Friends – I can’t believe how fast the summer is flying by!  Personally, my family and I have already enjoyed a week on Hilton Head Island, SC plus three weeks of swimming and tennis lessons for my kids … when I woke up Monday morning (at 9:30am!! ) I realized it was the first time since school’s been out that we didn’t have anywhere to go.  And I probably don’t have to tell you how glorious that felt!

So I’m posting a quick update on what we’ve been up to these past few weeks as well as a new training plan I put together exclusively for my Java & Sole girls to prep for our two upcoming half marathons in September and November.

I’m linking up with The Fit Foodie Mama and friends today so grab an iced coffee (or something refreshing!) and join us for Wild Workout Wednesday

First, we’re going “wayback” to last month … so many fun races these girls have done, I didn’t want you to miss out on all our adventures!

Celebrating Memorial Day with some red, white and blue!

The 2nd Annual Indiana Women’s Trail Run – this was our second year for this great summer race, so I guess it’s tradition now! Plus, there are Gigi’s Cupcakes at the finish line … Full race recap coming soon!

Nettie and her husband ran that same trail 2 weeks later at the Summer Night Trail Run … that’s right, I said they did a trail run at night!  Headlamps were a must, but I still would have broken something 😉

These three got muddy for a good cause at the Dirty Girl Mud Run benefiting the Bright Pink Foundation

Carla, Amy and Geri routed and ran 13.1 through town for the Peace & Love Bug Virtual Run – Geri’s halfway to her goal of completing a half marathon each month this year!

Summer is a crazy-busy time for each of us, as I’m sure you can relate!  It’s hard to stay on top of your training when the kids are out of school (and they have multiple activities each day), when your daily routine is completely thrown off and especially when travel and/or vacation is involved.

Back in May I started working on a 24 week training plan that would help us stay accountable through the summer (no matter where or when we ran!) and to ensure we would be ready for the Indy Women’s Half Marathon, our next big race, on September 19.  (Fun fact: if you visit the IWH link above, you will see 5 familiar faces on the header of their homepage.  Apparently Jenny, Geri, Mary, Summer and I took a “super” finish line photo!)

Check out my full race recap from the 2014 Indy Women’s Half!

Monday, May 24 officially marked the beginning of our CRG24 Training Plan.  We are now halfway through Week 6 and, though I have admittedly missed some runs and/or workouts here and there, I have been much better at logging and tracking my miles this summer.  Whether I’m traveling for a conference or my schedule at home dictates a mid-day run rather than my typical early-bird hours, I am 1000% more likely to get my run in if I have a plan to follow.

Feel free to jump in and join us virtually when you can or start from the Week 1 and build a great base with some 2-3 mile run/walks.

Check out the full CRG24 Training Plan here!

Thankfully, this past Saturday several of us were able to reunite for a weekend long run 🙂

bux6.27And I got to share my free Cinnamon Roll frappe with the girls! (Those little reward stars magically make all the calories in this tasty treat disappear, right?!)

Don’t forget to follow {@javaandsole} on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for some fit, funny and fabulous social media exclusives 🙂

Are you currently training for a race?  Which one(s)?  Do you follow a training plan or do you prefer to let your body decide how far/fast you run each day?

What is your favorite refreshing summer drink?  I will always have a sweet tea addiction, though I’m trying to do better.  Iced Coffee is a close second … those frappe’s are just too rich not to share!  The mini size is perfect though!!

I live feeling like you’re on the same page as people you don’t even know! Definitely always listen to your body…and my body says ICED COFFEE! 🙂

  2. Are you from IN? 🙂 I’m just outside of Indy!!! So happy to have you link up

Yes, Sarah! The west side of Indy – that’s so funny 🙂 You are officially the first IN blogger I have met!

  3. I’m kinda sorta training right now for a 10K in August…haven’t kicked it into full gear yet! I’ve been working with a coach the past few months and it’s really made a difference for me. Love all the pictures of your recent events!

Janelle – I have always thought about working with a coach but never sure where or when to start! I have a great group of accountability partners I train with, but I have always wondered if having a coach dedicated to my needs would make me faster. Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to get faster?! 🙂 10K is my favorite race distance! Happy training and thanks for stopping by!

  4. I totally agree- definitely more apt to stick to my workouts/running if I have a plan, especially during these busy summer months! Thanks so much for linking up and sharing 🙂
