Thinking Out Loud Thursday #3

In less than two school days, my kids will be on Spring Break….and my brain is being tugged in a million different directions as I try to accomplish as much as possible before my solo time becomes family time!  With that said, welcome to my third link up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud Thursdays!

(1) Smoothie Life – I have a huge recipe book that came with my NutriBullet and have printed dozens of smoothie recipes off Pinterest.

Want to know what my favorite recipe is??  Whatever is in the fridge.  Today’s smoothie du jour looks something like this.

Of course, I actually made mine last night while I was cleaning out the fridge (this picture was staged this morning) so some of my ingredients were no longer available :)  It turned out really tasty so I thought I would share.  Be warned, my “recipe” does not include any actual measurements … because who has time for that?!

What You’ll Need: 1 gala apple; 1 anjou pear; 1 orange; handfuls of blueberries, raspberries, cherry tomatoes and baby carrots; sprinkle in some Chia seeds, some Flax seed and just a few Goji berries and about 8 oz. of Trader Joe’s Spiced Apple Cider (yes, I stockpile my favorite things!)  Blend on high for 30-60 seconds.

I like to stick mine in the refrigerator for a couple hours or overnight whenever possible so it’s nice and cold when I am ready to enjoy it.  Using frozen fruits and/or veggies would also work if you wanted it cold right away!  Normally I include kale or spinach but I didn’t have any on hand so I got creative with the tomatoes and carrots!

I try to have a smoothie at least 2-3 times per week as a pick me up for those times between meals when the snack craving hits!  Plus, drinking it take a lot longer than the handful of chips I would have grabbed and it fills me up with much more fruits and (especially) veggies than I would have otherwise eaten.

(2) Speaking of drinks – I found a new (to me at least) flavor of Stur at the grocery store last week!  I like this one even more than the Fruit Punch because of its lighter flavor.

Of course, I love that I can squeeze in as much or as little as I want to get it just right, regardless of the flavor.  My first Fruit Punch lasted a lot longer than I thought because I could flavor my 32 oz water bottle with only 3 small squirts, less than half of what’s recommended on the packaging.

(3) When I first heard Carrie Underwood was releasing her own fitness-centered clothing line, I was thrilled!  I have followed Carrie’s career since her American Idol days, I love her music, her views on life and her laid back style.

This week I received this in the mail … maybe I can squeeze in some window shopping before Spring Break!

Do you “smoothie”? What are your favorite combinations?  I love anything with bananas and chocolate almond milk!

What is one piece of clothing you can’t live without? Long sweater cardigan or hooded sweatshirt, leggings and flip flops are always my outfit of choice!

I love your smoothie philosophy! Anything and everything goes! I actually used up my spinach since we’re going away for spring break. Yay! I do love chocolate protein powder, a little almond butter, banana, spinach and a few coffee ice cubes. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Marica, that combo sounds delicious! Why haven’t I thought of adding coffee to my smoothies – that should be a no brainer?! Thanks for the suggestions – thank you for stopping by!

  2. I have never in my life thought of putting tomatoes in a smoothie! It makes perfect sense though – gotta pack in those nutrients. :) My top 2 smoothies are a basic green smoothies with bananas / spinach, and PB chocolate!

Trust me, between the tomatoes and the carrots I was sure I was setting myself up for failure! I was pleasantly surprised when it actually tasted good :) Berries are the cure all for covering up anything else! Thank you so much for stopping by!

I love smoothies – especially in the summer. Sometimes I like to add a little bit of peanut butter to my smoothies. It’s so good!

I love smoothies too. I make them the same way, whatever fruit it veggie I ace in the house. I like to freeze mine. Makes them thick and icy

  5. I made a smoothie this morning with banana, strawberry, oats, greek yogurt, honey, almond milk and flax. Yummy! I couldn’t live a day without my running shoes!

Wow, that sounds delicious! I have never thought to add oats, but will definitely give that a try since it’s something I always have on hand ;) Thanks so much for stopping by and for sharing your favorite smoothie!
