Thinking Out Loud: The Great Outdoors

I can’t believe it’s already time for my weekly link up with Amanda over at Running with Spoons … if every week continues to fly by this quickly, the kids will be out of school for the summer in nano-seconds!

My first half marathon of the year is happening in TWO days, which means it’s Taper Week!

Wednesday’s 2 milers …

4.15 sk

And the 3 milers ….

I should tell you I love taper week because of how it prepares my body to run 13.1 miles at the end of the week.  But if we’re being completely honest, one of the reasons I love taper week so much is that we are running less miles in the morning we have more time for coffee and girl talk before we head home to get ready for work and get our kids off to school!

One of the things I got sucked into the last time we had too much coffee time? My very first podcast addiction.

The podcast recounts the 1999 disappearance and subsequent murder investigation of a Baltimore area high school senior in a “he said, she said … who did it?!” format.  {Since forensic science television shows are among my favorites, I’m actually surprised I put this off for so long!}  The second season of Serial is due out any day now … so clearly yesterday morning we had to discuss all the possibilities for the next episode!

Okay, okay …. back to real life!

Several of our Java & Sole girls got to see the 2nd generation of Runner Girls (and Boys) in action at the first meeting of our local kids’ running club!  Seriously warms my heart to watch these kids grow up with a love of running and exercise :)

Speaking of kids, I was lucky enough to join two of mine on their field trip to our nature park yesterday.

Scooping creatures out of the creek to identify, learning a lot about meteorology and taking a hike to the top of the hill overlooking the creek is a pretty great way to spend a beautiful day!

Have you ever listened to a podcast? I swear I’m the last person I know to jump on the podcast bandwagon.  Does that make me old school??  What races do you have coming up?  Carmel Half Marathon this weekend!  If training, what’s your favorite thing about the week leading up to the race?  Eating!!  And less weekday miles :)

Oooh have a great race! That one sounds awesome! Serial is really the first podcast for me as well so add me to camp old school. Yay for a new season! I have a 10-mile race on Saturday.

So glad I’m not alone in Camp Old School! 8-10 miles is my favorite long run distance :) Best of luck to you Saturday!

  2. I’ve been hearing so many good things about Serial! I haven’t given it a listen just yet, but I’m thinking I’m going to have to just so that I don’t feel so left out when people are talking details and I have no idea what’s going on :P

Haha … that’s why I finally caved too! Several of the girls I run with were constantly talking about who did what and who was covering for who – it was driving me crazy that I had no idea what was going on! I will say that “binge listening” to several episodes in a row was very satisfying though :)

  3. Tapering always make me a crazy girl! I always feel like I should be running haha. More time for coffee is the best part though.

I know! And if I’m not running I think I should be working out more – but I’m really not supposed to do that either! It’s the only time I EVER feel guilty for wanting to work out!

Hubby was all about serial but I haven’t taken the time yet! This week’s taper runs were fabulous!! We went a bit speedy but I think I was the only one in the 4 miler group running Carmel. I am drinking my gatorade and trying to eat much while in the middle of the taper crazies. Got my shirt and super excited for Saturday!!

I can’t believe you haven’t gotten sucked in yet! Especially since your hubby listened to it too … I think you just found your entertainment for Saturday :) The weather Saturday is supposed to be gorgeous – can’t wait!

I enjoyed Serial but I prefer using to listen to audiobooks. I don’t have much time to read but I use my time in the car to listen to them.

I am the exact same way – I am always amazed at anyone who has time to read! Because I am not tech-savvy, how do you listen to a website in your car??
