Thinking Out Loud: Shortest 8 Weeks Ever

You may have figured out by my recent blog and Instagram posts that my kids are heading back to school next week {after a seemingly short 8 week break} and I’m not sure how I feel about that.  On one hand, we are all ready to be back on a regular schedule and, dare I say, with a regular bedtime.

On the other hand, my youngest is starting Kindergarten, my twin girls will be in third grade and I’m not exactly sure what I’m supposed to do with myself during the day.  Sure, my house will get a thorough (and much needed) cleaning and I’ll finally have time to tackle those closets I have been avoiding for months.  And writing.  I can’t wait to dedicate more time to writing!  But after that … then what?

So while I ponder this personally unchartered territory, I will share a lovingly random collection of thoughts and pictures with you on this beautiful Thursday, because, thanks to Amanda  at Running With Spoons …

(1) I was thrilled to be selected as a Race Ambassador for the Indy Women’s Half on September 19!  Running through downtown Indianapolis past some of my favorite landmarks makes this women’s only event a fantastic race for your BRF’s (Best Running Friends!)

Registered runners were able to vote on their favorite medal design last month and this pretty purple butterfly was the winner.  Both half marathon and 5K participants will receive this unique design.  My daughters’ both adore last year’s medal and will be running their third 5K this year, along with my mom, to earn their very own sparkly butterfly in 58 days :)

(2) Yesterday, the kids and I met my mom for our back to school shopping tradition.  Once we had effectively cleared the Gap Kids outlet of all the cutest clothes, we headed to Max & Erma’s for lunch.  It was Free Cookie Wednesday … and I would show you pictures of that deliciousness but those treats are loooong gone!  But I did want to share this fun fact with you, courtesy of their kids cup:

(3) Because I have the smallest feet in the land (seriously, my running shoes are 6.5 and I can – and have – worn kids tennis shoes if I like the colors better!) my friends at The Runners Forum have to order my shoes and then I have to wait for them to arrive, which feels like forever even it’s only a few days!  But these beauties are finally home and I can not WAIT to try out my new PureFlow4‘s this weekend :)  Doing a happy dance!!

(4) I have never been able to be trusted with numbers (unless I am calculating a sale price in my head, in which case I am lightening fast!) but I’m pretty sure this is the first time our “little” group has had at least 16 people show up at dark thirty for all three of our weekday runs.  And we are all still smiling :)

We have some girls training for a full in November, some starting (or restarting) Couch to 5K and some following my CRG24 Training Plan in preparation for the Indy Women’s Half in September, in addition to future fall races.

CRG24 called for 5 sweaty miles this morning

(5) Between coffee, and breakfast, and more coffee I was able to sneak in my Tropical Nuun – which means no dehydration headaches later.

(6) Given the fact that my kids will be disappearing onto the bus next week, I’m trying to make the most of our last carefree days.  We hit up one of our favorites for lunch before the kids begged me to stop at the library on the way home.  Don’t be fooled – we haven’t been to the library all summer. I can only assume they are trying to get back into the school routine as well :) lepeep library

How many miles did you run/walk this today?

What’s your favorite post-workout drink?

When you visit the library, do you start reading a book while you are there or wait until you get home?

Where do you purchase the nuuns? I’m prone to dehydration headaches after long runs. Thanks!

I purchased mine at our local specialty running store but I believe I have seen them at Dick’s Sporting Goods before and you can also order them online.
