Thinking Out Loud: Seeking Sunshine

Good Morning friends!  So happy you have joined us for another link up with Amanda at Running with Spoons 😉  Thanks to her …

I love Thinking Out Loud Thursdays because it means I can write about anything and everything that’s on my mind.  Usually my thoughts are pretty organized, but I’m warning you … today there’s a little bit of everything.  We’re starting with the fun stuff and ending on a serious note.  Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for some laughs and some tears.

Taking a cue from our very own selfie king, Brian, I’ve been working to improve my selfie skills – not bad for just after an early morning run 🙂  These girls make me smile even when I don’t want to (you know, at dark-thirty when I’d rather be in bed!) and honestly, I couldn’t imagine a world without each one of them.

I know I just said this a couple weeks ago, but these Indiana sunrises and sunsets have been amazing!  It’s a beautiful sign of hope and a reminder that each day God grants us a new beginning. It’s everything I can do to not just stop my car in the middle of the road on my way home from a run to get the perfect photograph.  {Don’t worry, I haven’t done that … yet!}

I can not believe that tomorrow we leave for Lexington to run the Inaugural Horse Capital Half Marathon!  Seems like forever ago when we registered for the race and started planning this trip.  I just love inaugural events because there is always an added level of excitement from everyone – race director, volunteers, participants and even spectators.

More than 1,800 registered runners for this race and lots of beautiful scenery along the way!  Both the full and half marathons were recently certified as Boston Qualifiers, so maybe we’ll rub elbows with some elite runners while we are there!  One of my favorite surprises was a downloadable race photo package offered at registration for only $8.99!  Of course I need pictures of race day, but this way I can ask the kind photogs on the course to snap a shot for us instead of always trying to squeeze us all into a selfie (though I am proud of how those selfie skills are coming along!)

And I’m super excited for my running besties to meet my college bestie, who lives in Lexington!!

Because I know my friends appreciate a good salad (so we can rationalize a good cupcake later!), I have been loving the delicious fresh fruit that is finally available to top off my favorite summer salad combinations, like the spinach + shredded turkey + zucchini + strawberries/blueberries/blackberries + feta combo you see here.  So good!

But sometimes life isn’t about sunshine and salads and venti iced coffees.  Sometimes there’s a real struggle going on inside that we try desperately to push away or ignore because it seems like everyone has their act together but you (or me.)

The details aren’t important, because I know you know exactly what I mean.  Sometimes the struggles are things we can work through in one good long run.  Sometimes they linger much longer.  Sometimes you can see it coming.  Other times they slap you in the face.

The Hands Free Mama posted this picture on her Hands Free Revolution Facebook page this morning and it could not have come at a better time.  Today, the struggle is not personally mine, but my heart hurts for hers.

Be the love today, friends 🙂 Take time to feel the sunshine on your face, to call your loved ones, and your best friend, and hug your families tightly today … and allow others to love you back.
