Call it wishful thinking, but I’ve decided I have to do something to mentally prepare for spring! Snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice … we’re over. You may still show up on my doorstep tonight, but I’m moving on. Even if that means listening to Zac Brown Band by a warm fire (pretending the heat’s coming from a beach in South Carolina because I’m snowed in) … I have to get ready for tank top weather!!
So when my Runner Girl Summer presented me with a 30 Day Push Up Challenge, I had to accept! I have to admit, Summer did all the leg work on this – and the one she chose for us is perfect!
This workout is great because it challenges us from Day 1 with 40 push ups and adds on each day (with a few rest or catch up days built in) to 100. Plus, it outlines modifications to make the workout easier or harder to fit your fitness level.
In trying to increase my strength and muscle tone, I have done the first few days in groups of 10 with a 30-60 second break between each set. I try to do the first two sets in regular push up position and the remainder in the modified position, slowing increasing the number I don’t have to modify!
If 40 push ups on Day 1 sounds like a lot, I found this workout that starts with 5 push ups and ends at 40!
If you are a true fitness fanatic and both of these look ridiculously easy to you (even Beast Mode on the first one!) then allow me to suggest a challenge my brother, Josh, did with some friends a few years ago. They decided to do a push up for each day of the year. So on the first day of the year, they did one push up. On January 2, they did 2 push ups. By February 1, the 32nd day of the year they had 32 push ups and so on.
Your first 3 months might seem easy. Your first 6 months might not even seem too bad. But by September when you’re doing 250-300+ push ups every day, you’ll start to feel it :) And I’m pretty sure Josh was the only one of 8 or 10 guys to complete the entire 365 days! Kudos Brother!
What are you most looking forward to about spring? What kind of music puts you in the mood for warm weather??
