A Few of My Favorite Things: Christmas Edition

5. Christmas Shopping

Whether it’s in Chicago with some of my lovely Runner Girls, at the mall (AGH!) or online (um, yes please!) I truly love the hunt for the perfect gifts for our families. ¬†The suspense of waiting for the recipients to open said gifts is almost more than I can handle!! ūüôāPhoto Dec 24, 11 22 14 PM

4. Runner Girl Traditions

From our Annual Mug Exchange (where we take over Starbucks) to the fun Christmas races like Jingle Bell, Santa Hustle and, this year, the Donut 5K – it’s always easy to feel festive with these crazy girls!Photo Dec 14, 5 35 42 AM

3. Favorite Christmas Movies

My kids have their favorites that come out each year on December 1 {okay, who am I kidding … it’s more like October 1!} including The Polar Express {my absolute favorite Christmas book growing up}, (Jim Carrey’s) How The Grinch Stole Christmas and the classics like Frosty and Rudolph. ¬†But this year we introduced them to several “new” ones including¬†Irving Berlin’s¬†White Christmas and the cartoon version of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. ¬†Love, Love, Love starting and continuing the favorite movies tradition!¬†Photo Dec 25, 12 10 11 AM

2. Christmas Morning

In the hustle and bustle of the season, the entire month leading up to Christmas Day is full of traveling and celebrating, reuniting with family we don’t see as often as we’d like and catching up with loved ones. ¬†By the time Christmas Day actually arrives, I’m slowly unraveling. ¬†Christmas morning is a glorious time for our family to slow down and spend some precious time together, just the 5 of us. ¬†Rolling out of bed to three hilariously impatient kids excited to open their presents, enjoying a leisurely breakfast and an extra cup of coffee {or two} and staying in our pj’s nearly all day. ¬†It’s a truly magical time ūüôā¬†Photo Dec 24, 9 40 55 AM

1. Christmas Eve service

The beginning of the slow down … we attend a very large church (over 4,000 regular attendees) and last night my girls and I volunteered in the nursery at the first Christmas Eve service then met my husband, son and some friends for the second service. ¬†{There were two more services after we left, plus¬†two the day before!} I love having our whole family together to sing Christmas songs and hymns and to focus solely on the Reason for the Season. ¬†Photo Dec 24, 4 28 54 PM
