First, two more fun pictures from this past weekend:
I planned to include them in yesterday’s post, but didn’t want them to get lost in the craziness of our long run and Colts 5K!
(1) Our marathoners, nicknamed J Crew (because of their names, not the clothing brand!) logged a lovely 14 miler Saturday morning … coordinating outfits not planned 🙂
(2) Our triathletes! Melissa and Liza each rocked their Go Girl Triathlon, which consists of a 500 meter open water swim, a 10 mile bike ride and a 3 mile run. I’d say these two made Indy’s only women only triathlon look easy 🙂
I would honestly love to do a triathlon like this one some day, but don’t trust myself on a bike or in the open water … so that thought has been put on hold for the foreseeable future! I am just in awe of these ladies, their training and their accomplishments!!
Our weekly NEVER MISS A MONDAY photo … seriously, sometimes the accountability of this picture is what gets me out of bed.
“But B, you’re not even in this picture,” you say? It’s because I *thought* I broke my selfie stick … turns out, I just hadn’t had enough coffee to realize that the cover had shifted slightly and the button wasn’t exactly where it was supposed to be. WHEW! Still not sure how I ever managed with my selfie stick! 🙂
Even though my legs were still sore from Friday’s 12 miler, the four mile stretch out run felt pretty good yesterday morning. Slow, but good. So when it came time to leave last night for a Mini Monday event on the other side of town, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
The OneAmerica 500 Festival Indianapolis Mini Marathon hosted a free, family friendly Summer Fun Run series throughout central Indiana this year offering snacks, giveaways and registration incentives.
Last night the run was hosted at the Fort Ben YMCA. I had never run in that area before but have heard wonderful things about the trails and scenery … and the hills! We stayed in a nearby neighborhood to accommodate the 1, 2, and 3 mile loops and this area wasn’t as hilly as I expected but it was still a beautiful run.
I was excited to run into some college friends I hadn’t seen in while, who had brought their kids along for the fun, and to meet a couple of the other Indy Mini Ambassadors I will be working with over the next 8 months until our May 7 race day!
Still not sure how long or fast I wanted to run, I decided to start slow. It must have felt pretty good, because before I knew it I was averaging in the low 9’s … on tired legs and having already run 4 miles in the morning.
When I slowed down the last quarter mile to finish my 3 mile loop, I actually had a woman thank me for my faster pace. Which has never happened before – I’m always the one begging people to pace me!
The Asics rep was one site giving away lots of great brand gear – tshirts, cinch bags and socks among other things.
And one lucky woman won a free registration to the 2016 Indy Mini Marathon!
It’s the 100th running of the Indy 500 and the 40th anniversary of the Mini – you definitely don’t want to miss out!
Registration re-opens on September 14 … I’ll post updates as I receive them. Follow Java & Sole on social media and sign up to receive my latest posts in your inbox so you never miss an update!
