Success: Seussified!

I joined Tara’s link up at Running ‘N Reading this week – you can check out her Weekend Update as well!

I honestly don’t even know where to begin this post…I spent several hours yesterday just sorting through all of our pictures from the 1st Annual Dr. Seuss Virtual Run!

This run was an absolute blast!  We had 26 members of our Java & Sole family and friends show up for an early Sunday morning run today.  Amy was a fantastic race director, organizing our date/time/location, routing out 13.1 miles around town (twice actually, because part of the original route is still covered in snow!), printing and personalizing our bibs and providing our post-run refreshments.  Tina, officially assistant race director, is holding up one of our huge Dr. Seuss medals!

Sherry and Jenny were our traveling water stop/cheerleaders/race photographers 🙂  I think I only took 4 pictures all day (I mean, sometimes I take that many pictures of just my coffee after a run!)

At mile 5, we had our first stop.  Some of the girls only planned on 5 miles based on their training schedule and/or Sunday morning obligations, like church!  So they had wisely dropped off a car a the mile 5 stop and drove themselves back to our starting line.  The rest of us grabbed some water and nutrition and continued on.

In it for the long haul – the rest of the groups finished with 10, 11 or 13.1 miles!

Jennifer made this cute collage to include our race bibs and medals too!

Some of us stopped around mile 8 when the traveling water stop caught up to us … okay, I guess technically we caught up to the car.

Our race directors presenting Amy with some finish line food – a cupcake of course! And that’s Sherry cheering us on from the car while Jenny is taking pictures!

Our finish line photos, taken by our race photographer Tina.

Nothing like raiding your daughters’ dress up box at 6am because you thought it would be fun to have some post-race photo props … like tu-tus!

Post-Race Refuel: You know what makes a great race even better?  CUPCAKES!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Tell us about your weekend?  Did anyone take advantage of the warmer weather to go run or play outside??

  1. Oh, my gosh! This is SOOOO cool! I love Dr. Seuss and the fact that you all got together to do a virtual run together, in his honor, sounds like a ton a fun and it looks like y’all had a great time! These pictures are fantastic, and so are those medals! Wow! I did enjoy some warmer weather on Saturday and had a great time at the race I attended. Thank you so much for linking up with the blog today; hope your week is off to a great start!

Hi Tara – thanks for stopping by! And thank you so much for your great Weekend Update link up. I was so excited to link up for the first time yesterday and also to read other’s posts as well – such a fun way to support our blogging community and learn about new races, training plans, etc. THANK YOU!

      1. I’m so glad you are participating; it’s still new, but it’s growing and there’s a great group that has become pretty regular each week. Hope to “see” you again soon!

What a great idea. And, it looked like a huge success. I love the cupcake graphic. Now I know just how many I can eat after a race.

Haha! One of the other girls found that and posted it to our Running page – I thought it was vital information that every cupcake-loving runner should have 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  3. This looks like so much fun! I love that you all got together to celebrate Dr. Seuss. Also, that cupcake chart is ridiculous. I should probably pretend that I didn’t see it or I’ll be in big trouble 😉

Thanks for stopping by – this was only my second virtual race but we had such a great time we’re planning to do some more! Dr. Seuss makes everything more fun though 🙂

  4. That’s awesome! Such a fun virtual race and a great turn out! Those medals are huge!

It’s so funny, I teach preschool and took my medal to school last week for Dr. Seuss week to let the kids wear it if they did something good/nice during the day…but every one of the gave it back after a few minutes because it was so heavy! But the loved looking at it 🙂 I loved reading about your first virtual race as well – Thanks for stopping by!

  5. You ladies are so very inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing your journey! Beginners like me love how you make it fun & encouraging! And my house is full of “Seuss-lovers” so this one was a hit with everyone 🙂

Thank you so much Tracy! I feel compelled to share our stories because it’s important for people to realize it’s never too late to start something new. A friend of mine used to tell me, “Feel the fear, then do it anyway.” When you use the fear as motivation to keep going and keep trying, amazing things can happen! NEVER EVER GIVE UP! Thank you for your sweet words 🙂

I love this idea! It looks like you guys had a blast. Especially the cupcakes at the end. 🙂

My daughter and I made cupcakes last weekend. My BRF Aimee recently shared her frosting recipe with me and I’ve been using every excuse to use it. It’s the lightest buttercream frosting I’ve ever tasted. It’s a good thing I’m running again!
