Runner Girl’s Guide to Gifting: Part 1

When did the week leading up to Thanksgiving become part of the November shopping frenzy?  I totally lucked out this year, though, because my school was off the entire week but my kids weren’t!  So I made my list, check it twice and set off on a mission to make a dent in my Christmas shopping.  Somewhere between last Tuesday and Cyber Monday my shopping list began to dwindle …

Generally I love going out in search of the perfect gift for a family member or loved one.  But with a different work schedule this year, I knew that just wasn’t going to happen.  I took full advantage of my three kid-free days off work to get started, then spent the better part of Cyber Monday evening filling online carts and searching for discount codes.

Because I didn’t have my typical “treasure hunt” shopping experience this year, I had to be more specific with my online searches.  Googling “best gifts for mom (dad, husband, kids of all ages)” would have taken weeks to sort through – and I was already in a near panic as I clicked Submit on my final Cyber Monday order at 11:59pm, worried they would take my discount away if the order wasn’t completed in those final seconds!

I just had this conversation with my BFF last week …

We definitely win 🙂

No idea where to start your list? Almost finished but searching for a little “something” extra?  Here’s a list of some of my favorites … No Big Box Stores or Gift Cards Allowed!

(1) Race Registrations!!  This should come as no surprise 🙂  If you are shopping for someone who loves to run and has a particular race on their bucket list, this is SUCH a fun gift!  Two years ago, my parents registered me for my very first Disney race as a thank you for some work I had done for their business.  If you intend to make it a surprise, you’ll need to know the basics (address, birthdate, possibly expected finish time depending on the race) as well as other important info … like making sure your runner doesn’t have a scheduling conflict!  If it’s a destination race, consider additional costs like travel, hotel, food, etc. when making your plans.

I would love for you {or your gift recipient} to join the Java & Sole girls and I on May 7 for the 40th Anniversary of the Indy Mini  {Register Here} and/or on May 21 for the 2nd Annual Horse Capital Marathon and Half Marathon in Lexington, KY {Register Here}

Use Brandi Wolf as your Ambassador Referral for the Indy Mini and you will also be entered to win a commemorative cap (above) celebrating the 100th Running of the Indy 500!  (Details Here

(2) Motivational Accessories?  Yes!  Because sometimes we all need a little pick-me-up 🙂

These {wrap bracelets} are the perfect stocking-stuffer for your favorite friends of all ages.  They have some great “runner girl” phrases like endorphin junkie and don’t think, just run but also offer beautiful sentiments such as strength, courage, wisdom or aspire to inspire and be brave.  Washable and adjustable, these are great for kids (and tweens and teens) and adults!

Of course, I am also in love with {these} sparkly and adjustable headbands!  A great gift for a running buddy or baby-sitter, and easy to mail to a long distance friend 🙂  You can even get them embroidered with your own special message or saying – Tracy is great to work with!!

(3) Hoodies!  I am probably somehow biased, but is there really anything better than a hoodie?  They’re my go-to for just about everything including post-run coffee, the kids’ bus stop, a day of errands or online shopping.  And this one just says it all!

may have already had this in my cart in preparation for Cyber Monday then realized they were having a great deal on Small Business Saturday … so under the tree it will go 🙂

(4) Running Shoes {that aren’t for running}  Maybe “athletic-inspired” is a better term?  Either way, even though it may seem like it from their social media posts, your favorite runner isn’t always running.  We want to save the wear and tear on our favorite running shoes, and our feet need something stylish and comfy to wear until our next run!  Enter {these throwback beauties}!  I have literally had these in my cart for 6 weeks waiting for them to go on sale … Cyber Monday to the rescue!

(5) A little Christmas sparkle … because a little bling goes a long way in making any outfit more festive!  On their own or paired together, these pieces complement your favorite holiday staples at a price I know you’ll appreciate!  {necklace} {sequin pants}

necklacesequin leggings

(6) For the Teacher/Coach/Friend/Party Hostess Who Leaves You Scratching Your Head for Gift Ideas?!?  Personalized Stationary is both thoughtful and practical.  I have been gifting {these notepads} to my kids’ teachers for the past 4-5 years.  This site has hundreds of different designs starting at just $12.20 each, personalized, with dozens of fonts and colors to choose from during your customization.

(7) Books!  They make great stocking stuffers for kids and adults … and this is one of my favorites!  I don’t know Rachel personally, but her words are both brutally honest and refreshingly insightful.  Trying to Live Hands Free, especially during this “blessed to be stressed” time of year!

Use HOLIDAY30 {here} to get an additional 30% off the sale price!

      A little sparkle can make your whole day better! Buying sparkly things while drinking wine … it doesn’t get much better than that!

  3. Great ideas for gifts for runners! I do love the wrap and headband…I need more accessories in my life! I would say my brother is hardest to shop for because he always seems to have everything he wants!

    1. Java & Sole says:

      My brother too – he’s SO picky 🙂 Let’s just say gift receipts are usually my friend with him! BTW, those accessories are easy for you to stuff in your own stocking too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  4. My daughter is at IU so one of these years I need to come do the Indy mini don’t you think? Great suggestions

    1. Java & Sole says:

      Oh my gosh, of course! You could even do it together maybe?? It’s certainly one of those races that everyone should do at least once given the inclusion of the IMS. Maybe 2016 is your year!! 🙂

  5. I’ll take one of each, please! 😉

    1. Java & Sole says:

      Exactly! This was my not-so-subtle hint to my husband and family that I had been doing their Christmas shopping for them 🙂 You could always just forward this list to your loved ones?!?

    Running shoes that aren’t necessarily for running are a great idea! It’s something I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself – or would talk myself out of – but would love to get as a gift.

    1. Java & Sole says:

      Precisely my thoughts! Once I saw the ones posted here, I fell in love! They were in my cart for so long I almost forgot hadn’t actually purchased them yet 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  7. My dad is the hardest to shop for! He never wants anything haha. I think I’m going to have to get those sparkly pants for me! So cool. Thanks for linking up with us!

      Dads are so hard! I usually try to think outside the box and get mine some kind of fun gadget I think he might like, but then I remember he’s old-school and not into gadgets 🙂 I am with you on the pants – they just took “dressing up” to a whole new level!!
