I never would have guessed that wearing a swim cap and goggles for a race in the middle of December would be so … HOT! Four weeks ago, we thought it would be hilarious to wear bathing suits (or this underwear set!) over multiple layers of running tights and sweatshirts, with ear warmers over our swim caps – because it was sure to be at least a little bit cold in the middle of December in Indiana, right?
We never imagined we would have been more comfortable in JUST our bathing suits … local temperatures were close to 70* on Saturday morning for our annual Jingle Bell Run 5K/10K benefiting the Arthritis Foundation.
This race is unlike any other race we do all year. We always have a big group (15 “swimmers” this year)… We always start and finish together, abandoning our regular paces for a memorable 6.2 miles… And we regroup at every mile marker for a picture – this year the selfie stick made it’s inaugural run :)Oh, and we always dress up! Granted, we’re not shy about wearing matching outfits on race day, but Jingle Bell has an actual costume contest so we go all in!This year our Unsynchronized Swim Team costumes were good enough for the Most Humorous Costume Award! Major props to Dawn for making our waves :)
Thanks to our friends at The Runners Forum for these fantastic swim caps – the perfect finishing touch to our craziness :) Thanks to Mel’s family for this awesome group photo – the unofficial 6 mile marker :)We also had the pleasure of meeting up with Buddy the Elf!
Seeing all the fun costumes may be the highlight of this race! Last year, we came in 2nd place to some Sugar Plum Fairies in the Best Group Costume category.
Three years ago, we won that Group Costume category … Pacer tickets! … and the best part was that we did’t even know there was a costume contest until we all showed up in our matching footed pajamas that morning! All of the pictures from these races make for some hilariously enjoyable TimeHops! I wish you could have seen my daughter’s face when she woke up just a few minutes before I left Saturday morning and wanted to give me a hug goodbye – but was totally blindsided by the brown polka dot bikini and swim cap :)
After the race, I met up with my husband and kids to celebrate our first of many extended family Christmas celebrations. It was a whirl-wind day of holiday fun, and this cousin-lovin’ picture is possibly my favorite of them all!
I hope your weekend brought you many TimeHops to look forward to as well :)
What is your favorite Christmas movie? It’s A Wonderful Life and Elf (because black and white movies get their own category!)
Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog? Hot Chocolate for sure!
