For the Love of Training

Love was in the air this weekend!  Love of fragrant flowers, sassy new shoes, ice cold coffee and … the treadmill?!?  WHAT???Photo Feb 12, 4 26 43 PMYes, it’s true.  I logged all of my weekend miles (7 Saturday and 4 Sunday) on the treadmill.
Photo Feb 13, 3 20 17 PMI have a well-documented love/hate relationship with the ‘mill {just read all of my posts from last winter!} but I have to say that I didn’t hate it this weekend.  Plus, staying at a specific pace to meet our training plan guidelines is soooo much easier when I don’t have to keep looking down at my watch!Photo Feb 13, 12 43 15 PMPlus, we treated ourselves to coffee after … that Molten Chocolate Frappe in the middle was absolutely the richest, most decadent “coffee” beverage I have ever tasted.  I actually ended up taking half of it home for the kids to finish!  Photo Feb 13, 1 04 33 PMAnd because we are just *that* cool we had to take pictures with the photo props before we left :)

A little throwback to NYE 2002 {before we were engaged} for my Valentine!  Grateful he has put up with all my crazy ideas through the years.  Best Husband.  Best Dad.  Best Friend … Love him so much! Photo Feb 14, 8 42 08 AM

Sunday morning was supposed to be easier, but 4 miles felt like a dozen after a fast 7 the day before.  Keeping pace in the low 9’s is far from my comfort zone, but a necessary evil of setting a Declare It Day goal of a sub-2 hour half marathon this spring.  Photo Feb 14, 8 50 37 AM And more photo props … because just holding up the cups we already had would have been too obvious.  We had to have enlarged pretend ones too! :) Photo Feb 14, 9 05 28 AMI bought my snowflake tank top (similar to this one} at the Disney Princess Half Marathon expo two years ago and I remember thinking it was ridiculous to have a TANK TOP with a snowflake on it, but Frozen had just come out and I was completely obsessed {as were my daughters} so I bought it anyway.  Guess what? It was perfect for my 4 miles at the gym just before we got hit with 3-4″ of snow later in the day.

After my second speedy run in less than 24 hours, my family and I headed to church then hubby took the kids to his parents’ house for the day so I could clean out the basement … that’s true love, right?!  Honestly, I got so much accomplished and the kids got to play with their cousins!

But on the way home from church, post-run cravings started to resemble pregnancy cravings and all the sudden, I needed some serious protein immediately!  I passed all the typical fast food joints but nothing sounded good. That is, until I was about to pass my favorite local burger spot – one quick lane change to make a right turn and I already knew what I was going to order.  Mushroom + Swiss + Bacon + Waffle Fries + the salad I devoured before this picture … finally, my belly was happy again!

What’s your post-run must-have?  Are you training for a specific goal or PR for a certain distance? How do you like to celebrate Valentine’s Day?
